Prior to US forces expansion in Afghanistan, each regional command and subordinate nation conducted operations in geographic and information isolation from the other. Regional Commands would provide information as necessary to ISAF headquarters to answer critical information needs and standard recurring reports. US force expansion and the resulting demands to integrate operations much more tightly require new network and information sharing solutions to increase operational effectiveness and reduce risk.
